Small Town Boy in Big Apple for Big Data
Today's blog entry is contributed by our fabulous Data Services Manager Michael Holt!
Well it's Tutorial Day here at the Strata + Hadoop World Conference in New York. What does that big title actually mean? The conference is a gathering for those who work with "Big Data" which is basically any data too big to be handled with traditional database techniques. This is a problem we're familiar with at Terapeak with the massive amounts of information we receive constantly about activity on eBay and Yahoo Japan. Meeting with industry experts will help us keep up with the latest techniques for handling and analyzing the information we receive as well as guiding us towards the next generation of Terapeak tools.
Now in its second year in New York, the O’Reilly Strata Conference explores the changes brought to technology and business by big data, data science, and pervasive computing. This year, Strata has joined forces with Hadoop World to create the largest gathering of the Apache Hadoop community in the world. Strata brings together decision makers using the raw power of big data to drive business strategy, and practitioners who collect, analyze, and manipulate that data—particularly in the worlds of finance, media, and government.
